Kathryn Monahan

Obituary of Kathryn Monahan

Kathryn Monahan, of Brooklyn, New York, passed away on April 28, 2024, at the age of 64. She was born to the late John and Teresa Walsh in Brooklyn, where she spent her life building cherished memories and strong connections with those around her.

Kathryn's journey through life was marked by love, laughter, and a deep devotion to her family. It was in a local Brooklyn pub where she first met her beloved husband, Joseph Monahan. A chance encounter led to a lifelong love story that saw them through 42 years of marriage, filled with joy and companionship. Their union was blessed with three children: Shannon (Danny Hagenlocher) Monahan, Patrick Monahan, and Megan Monahan, whom Kathryn adored beyond measure. She found immense pride and joy in her role as a mother and later as a grandmother to James and Liv.

Her family was her greatest treasure, and she shared a special bond with her siblings, Bob (Kathleen) Walsh and the late John and Michael Walsh. Kathryn's heart carried the weight of loss when her beloved brother Michael passed away, leaving a void that echoed her profound love for him.

Kathryn's warm and inviting nature endeared her to many, earning her the nickname "Chatty Kathy" in her youth. She had a gift for making friends effortlessly, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met. Whether it was at the family business, "T&T Discount," where she greeted customers with a smile and engaging conversation, or within her close-knit community on Coleman Street, Kathryn's presence brought comfort and joy to those around her.

In addition to her sociable nature, Kathy was known for her culinary skills, delighting her family with delicious meals crafted with love in her kitchen. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she found joy in caring for her loved ones and providing for their needs.

Kathryn found solace and happiness in the beauty of nature, whether it was the serene mountains or the calming shores of the beach. She enjoyed monthly trips to Atlantic City to gamble in the casinos and spend time with Joseph and friends.  An avid animal lover, she shared her home with many pets over the years, including her cherished dog, Pumpkin.

Kathy leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and warmth. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched. In honoring Kathryn's memory, may we strive to emulate her compassion, her zest for life, and her unwavering dedication to family and community. Though she may be gone, her love will remain a guiding light for those who were fortunate enough to call her friend, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother.
