Arleen Frances Stapleton Obituary

May 18 1939 - May 27, 2020

We are sad to announce the passing of Arleen Frances (Cunningham) Stapleton. She was born May 18, 1939 on Garnet Street, Red Hook Brooklyn to late Thomas and Agnes Cunningham. Beloved sister to the late Thomas (the late Rita), the late John(the late Anna “Sissy”), Kathleen Parsons (George), the late William (the late Carol), and Owen James (Elizabeth “Chickie”).

Happily married for 54 years to Bob Stapleton. Mother to Robert Owen, John Thomas, the late Kathleen Agnes and Patricia Anne Jablonski. Mother-in-law to Mark Jablonski and Craig Bugbee. Cherished Nanny to Edward, Abigail and Fiona. Dear daughter-in-law to the late Jack and Mary Stapleton. Fun sister-in-law to Mary (the late William) Gladd, Muriel (the late Leonard) Stapleton, Patricia (the late Tom) Mitchell, the late Eddie Stapleton. Proud aunt and godmother to many nieces and nephews. Cousin to many in the Cunningham and McCarthy families.

Arleen had lifelong friendships to which her loss is insurmountable. Kind neighbor and faithful parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Brooklyn. Mrs. Stapleton was endeared to her children's friends.

The amount of loving memories and beautiful condolences Bob, Robert, John and Patricia have received has been an amazing account of how much those who knew her loved her. She was a proud graduate of Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School (Class of 1956) and Brooklyn College. She worked for Horn and Hardart Automat, Union Carbide and Kingsborough Community College. All of where she met many friends who stayed close to her throughout her life.

Arleen had an enigmatic personality. She loved to travel with her husband, children and friends. Arleen loved calling Brooklyn her home. She was an avid visitor to the Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Botanical Garden. She loved having music in her life and was always up for entertainment or a song. Her love of life, family and friendship was contagious.

We were truly blessed to have such a wonderful woman in our lives.

Rest In Peace
