Obituary of Angelo E. Van Nostrand

Angelo E. Van Nostrand, age 82, of Brooklyn, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 10, 2026. Born on March 29, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, Angelo was the beloved son of the late Frank Camarda and the late Josephine (DiMaria) Van Nostrand. A lifelong Brooklynite, Angelo built his life around family, hard work, kindness, and dedication to others.

Angelo was the devoted husband of  54 years to Marie L. (Frangello) Van Nostrand. Together they created a home built on strength and unwavering support.

Loving father of Lisa Frangello and MaryAnn Van Nostrand. Cherished grandfather of Benjamin Serrano and Myles Van Nostrand, who were truly the light of his life.

Beloved brother of the late Charlie Van Nostrand, the late Jeannie Carriero, the late Cathy Hart, Rosalie Frisone, the late Fran Ferri and Michael Van Nostrand. 

Angelo was known by everyone as a good-hearted and caring man. He worked tirelessly throughout his life, often holding three jobs at once to provide for his family and make sure his children had everything they could ever want or need. His work ethic was unmatched, and he carried himself with humility and pride in everything he did.

He worked for many years as a custodian at William E. Grady High School in Brooklyn, where his dedication and reliability never went unnoticed. Angelo also spent more than 40 years working at Doody Home Center in Sheepshead Bay, a longtime neighborhood hardware and paint store that was a staple of the neighborhood. Angelo was known as an expert painter, admired for his skill and craftsmanship. Even on weekends, he could often be found painting homes throughout the neighborhood — always working, always helping, always giving of himself.

Angelo loved to dance. Although his wife Marie did not enjoy dancing, her sisters happily stepped in as his dance partners so Angelo could do what he loved most — spinning across the dance floor with a smile on his face. He was a wonderful dancer and brought happiness wherever he went.

Above all else, Angelo’s greatest love was his grandchildren. Benjamin and Myles brought endless joy to his life and filled his heart with pride. Nothing made him happier.

Angelo will be remembered as a generous soul who would help anyone in need without hesitation. His kindness, warmth, hardworking nature, and love for family will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and sacrifice that will never be forgotten.

Reposing on Tuesday, May 12 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at Marine Park Funeral Home, 3024 Quentin Road, Brooklyn.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 13 at St. Mark R.C. Church, 2609 East 19th Street, Brooklyn.   

Entombment to follow at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge, New Jersey.
